Understand food terminology with ease

Compelling content for the theoretical aspects of Food Studies

Engaging digital resources

Interactive digital resources bring the study of food to life with:

  •  Additional content to expand and support material covered in the textbook
  • Two dedicated videos per chapter – one chapter overview video and one covering an important concept or additional topic of interest
  • Infographics to aid visual comprehension
  • Auto-marked quizzes that allow students to quickly check their recall of the content
  • Rollover definitions that immediately define key terms
  • QR codes in the printed textbook, ideal for homework use, to help students immediately access chapter overview videos.

Food for VCE comprehensively follows the new Study Design to ensure students understand the key knowledge and skills required for their school-based assessments and end-of-year exams.

  • End-of-chapter exam-style questions build confidence and experience in answering the kinds of questions students will encounter in the end-of-year exams. Questions include multiple-choice, short-answer and extended-response with annotated model answers for each Area of Study.
  • Multiple inquiry activities support building and developing skills for the Unit 4 research inquiry report.
  • ‘Let’s Talk’ activities for classroom discussion and tasks at the end of every chapter support the development of assessable skills.

Food for VCE offers students a range of practical and inquiry activities, as well as glossary definitions, to help students understand and practice using food science terminology.

  • A wide variety of current and interesting case studies explore issues across a range of media to help students develop key skills. These case studies, with a strong focus on Victorian organisations, include the environmental sustainability of primary food production, biodiversity, global food security and the use of genetic modification in food production.
  • Activities draw on contemporary examples, including from social media and influencers, to engage students in topics such as food standards, health claims of food labels and advertisements, and claims by weight-loss companies.
  • Visual aids, including diagrams and flowcharts, introduce and reinforce Food Studies concepts and help make sense of complex chemical processes and changes.
  • Carefully chosen language, case studies and recipes – underpinned by the Australian Dietary Guidelines – are accessible to all students, including kinaesthetic and visual learners, without compromising depth of content.
