Accessible, logical and comprehensive coverage of the new Western Australian Curriculum
Activities to meet the new curriculum's focus on modelling
Enhanced maths learning with fully integrated digital resources
Guidance on using step-by-step processes to solve problems
Building on the proven teaching and learning formula that underpins the Essential Mathematics 7-10 series, this new edition has been developed specifically for Western Australian students.
A mathematical modelling activity in every chapter provides students with opportunities to understand how the modelling process works and can be applied to solve problems.
Additional extended modelling activities, available in the Online Teaching Suite, give teachers the flexibility to delve deeper into each step of the modelling process and foster discussion of constraints, assumptions and making effective choices about the mathematics employed to solve context-based problems.
Students are guided to use a computational approach to solving problems, using step-by-step processes, simulations and flowcharts in conjunction with a range of digital tools and software such as spreadsheets, Desmos, geometry software and CAS calculators.
Ongoing enhancements on the Cambridge HOTmaths platform ensure that the fully integrated textbook provides complementary and engaging resources that consolidate classroom teaching and all students to take control of their learning.
Follow-up work comprising worked example videos, Now you try questions, exercise questions and links to section content can be assigned to students to address gaps in knowledge identified in the new Diagnostic Assessment tool.
Students are supported through the new Western Australian Curriculum with logical and sequential topic development, carefully graded questions, linked examples and various rich tasks to encourage deep understanding of concepts.
In each year level, selected content is labelled Consolidating (for content in the previous level); Optional for Years 9 & 10 (leading to senior mathematics studies); and Extending (for content that goes beyond the core and Optional content) providing the flexibility to meet the needs of all students.
A stronger emphasis is placed on financial mathematics, in line with the new WA Curriculum.
